Nottingham is a great place to shop. Numerous indoor and outdoor arcades, four department stores and countless designer shops - retail heaven within yards of Lace Market Hotel!

We have compiled this guide so that you can maximise your shopping experience. You can take it for granted that Nottingham has just about every branded store which can be found in most British high streets. So, this guide includes just the largest or most notable stores.

If you're not sure how to tell if your bras fit you properly, this is apparently the place for you! One of just ten UK stores, Bravissimo's Nottingham emporium has a bewildering collection of bridal lingerie, sports bras, swimwear and everyday underwear and daywear.

Sir Paul Smith is a Nottingham lad and this was his first ever shop in his now internationally-known design-led empire. The Byard Lane store sells his Jean, Red Ear and Sport labels. For everything else in the Paul Smith range, visit their flagship store (see "For Men & Women", above).

Slightly off the beaten track but still only fifteen minutes walk away. Smalleys is a proper gentlemen's outfitter, selling a great selection of bench made shoes, city shirts, country shirts, smart coats and classic jackets.

One of just half a dozen stores outside of London. TM Lewin brings a little bit of old-moneyed Jermyn Street style to Nottingham. Shirts come in an extensive range of collar sizes and sleeve lengths, and there is a host of suits, ties, cufflinks and accessories to choose from too.

Gordon Scott 143 Broadmarsh Centre, 0115 958 6365 In the most unlikely of locations (top floor of the Broadmarsh Centre), Gordon Scott is Nottingham's answer to an old-fashioned Russell & Bromley, with makes such as Loake, Church's, Barker, Grenson, Ecco and Timberland for men, and Van Dal and Gabor, for women. Staff are trained to fit junior shoes from Startrite, Sketches and Clarks.

Apart from the second floor of John Lewis, this is the only place in Nottingham city centre where you can buy smart garden tools and accessories.
