Our History

The Lion Hotel’s Grade II coaching inn frontage dates from the 18th Century. A bill of sale of 1824 stated that the inn had two large parlours, five bedrooms, extensive cellars, brew house, coach house and stabling for ten horses when John Deauville became the proprietor.
It was refurbished from a dilapidated state in 1852 and had exclusive rights to run an omnibus service from the premises to the railway station then situated between Belper and Milford until the 1860's. It has been extensively refurbished and altered over the years to provide an extremely high level of comfort and service.

The Lion Hotel became the first hotel in The Finesse Collection in 2000 when it was bought by Managing Director, James Blick.
